Dear Valued Customer:
Kidde is issuing a stop sale and product examination request on its line of CO2 10lb., 15lb., and 20lb. extinguishers manufactured from January 1, 2009 through June 23, 2019 which are branded “Kidde” or ” Badger” due to a potential safety issue. The potentially affected models are:
Kidde Models: 10lb. Pro 10 CDM-4, 15lb. Pro 15 CDM-4, 20lb. Pro 20 CDM-4
Badger Models: 10lb. B10V-1, 15lb. B15V-1, 20lb. B20V-1
Hose Assembly P/N: 21008966, 21008965, 21008965
ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Reason: All nozzle tips on CO2 model hose assemblies should contain four (4) unobstructed discharge holes to properly expel extinguishing agent. Kidde has learned that some Co2 discharge nozzle tips may have been manufactured without the proper number of nozzle holes or may contain obstructed/blocked discharge holes which may affect operational discharge perfomrance.
ACTION: For all existing inventory that has not been placed into service: Effective immediately, Kidde requests that you segregate, hold and stop sale of all models and hose assembly spare parts listed in the above table you may have in stock wtih carton box labels reflecting a packaging date PRIOR TO june 23, 2019, to confirm the discharge nozzle tips have all 4 unobstructed discharge holes before selling them or placing them into service.
For all extinguishers in the field manufactured in 2019: Kidde also requests that extingusihers in the field with a 2019 manufacturing date stamp which have not yet gone through their annual maintenance undergo immediate examination. The two digit month and year are stamped on the shoulder of the cylinder. In addition, Kidde is sending this correspondence to you via Docusign so you can easily execute the attached Acknowledgement Form, which will be returned to Kidde for its records. You will want to print out a copy for your own records.
FOR ALL EXTINGUISHERS IN THE FIELD MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2009 THROUGH 2018: Extingusihers in the field with a manufacturing date stamp between 2009 and 2018 should be examined during the next scheduled Co2 extinguisher field maintenance or recharge procedure to ensure all discharge nozzles are properly examined and have 4 unobstructed holes.
CO2 HOSE ASSEMBLY EXAMINATION PROCESS: All Models and spare parts within the potential affected population as described above should have an examination to ensure there are four unobstructed discharge holes. Please follow the instructions below for proper examination:
1. Ensure fire extinguisher ring pin and inspection seal are properly installed.
2.Remove the discharge horn retainer spring clip from the discharge horn assembly.
3.Push the discharge hose and noxxle tip forward to fully expose the brass nozzle tip.
4.Confirm the discharge nozzle tip has 4 holes present and that they are all unobstructed.
5. Pull the discharge hose and nozzle tip back down to properly seat it in the plastic horn and reinstall the discharge horn retainer spring clip to secure it within the horn assembly.
If there are less than four discharge holes or if you are not able to clear obstructions from the discharege holes, please contact Kidde at 1-877-723-3505 to obtain a free replacement discharge hose assembly.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR ALL CO2 EXTINGUISHERS: Kidde recommends that you incorporate the CO2 hose assembly examination process described above in your routine annual maintenance process on an ongoing basis. The Badger/Kidde service manual has been updated to reflect these recommendations.
NOTE: REFERENCE THE CURRENT BADGER/KIDDE CARBON DIOXIDE HAND PORTABLE EXTINGUISHER SERVICE MANUAL P/N-24644 (REV-09/19) FOR DETAILED SERVICE RELATED INFORMATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF PROPER FIRE EXTINGUSIHER MODEL SERVICE PARTS.
